Mission education is a process of sharing God's mission in the world.
It proclaims and communicates the Biblical mandate for mission and helps
persons
to understand the political, economic and social context of the world in which
the church is called to serve.
Mission education provides information about the programs and projects of the
church in mission.
It calls
people to remember
God's activities and to model these. In today's world, mission education takes
place in an environment
of mutual learning with mission partners. Mission education connects persons
with
and engages
them to
participate in God's mission.
MISSION EDUCATION PROGRAM EMPHASES
Connectional
Linkages and Partnerships
- Meet and network with annual Conference and District Mission
Leaders, United Methodist Professors of Mission, other General Agency
staff, and other identified mission constituencies to engage in dialog,
discussion and information around the missional issues, seeking to
relate the total ministry and program priorities of the
General Board of Global Ministries to these leaders and through their connectional
linkages to the whole church.
- Specific training and resources will be directed
toward the Conference Secretaries of Global Ministries,
as the specific Disciplinary linkage with GBGM.
Leadership Development
- To provide specific opportunities to interpret the work of GBGM and
to develop new partnership relationships, thereby, coordinating and
assigning GBGM Mission Interpreters to Mission Celebration Events, which
would provide opportunities to link their Mission Story with the GBGM.
- To expand the mission encounter by providing Mission Travel
Seminars for Conference Leaders, Seminarians and Christian Educators.
Invite 2nd Year District Superintendents to participate in an annual
Mission Experience which would provide another channel of interpretation.
Host
GBGM Seminars to create a forum
for GBGM staff to engage with our constituents and interpret their
specific mission emphasis.
Mission Resource Development
- Work with other units across the Board to enhance and promote the
goals and objectives of the General Board of Global Ministries, and
to tell the mission story, by providing the tools to communicate the
mission emphases in creative and innovative ways.
Missional congregations
Emerging
churches and new initiatives
- Cooperate with emerging churches in
Cambodia, Baltic States, Russia, Cameroon, Senegal and other emerging
churches and new initiatives to generate Christian resources appropriate
for
their contexts.
- Continue to work with the Joint Committee on Indigenous Resources
(GBGM and GBOD), and designated cross-functional teams to interpret,
