Experience:  Issues of faith and life divide us, the media confuses us.  One fifth of the world’s population are Muslims.  We know very little about the faith.  Through presentations on the history and culture of the area, gain a better understanding of the Islamic peoples.  Explore similarities, seek the beauty, get to know them.  Learn also of the rich history of Gulfside Assembly, a non-profit organization of the United Methodist Church founded in 1923 by Bishop Robert Jones, the first African-American Bishop of the Methodist Church.  Explore Ship Island, Fort Massachusetts, and the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Stroll the shore where French explorers first landed over 300 years ago.  Sample rich cuisine of Creole, Cajun and Southern cooking.  Enjoy the restful setting right on the beautiful Gulf Coast.  

Mission service:  Participants will be involved in a landscaping project of the Leisure Village for older adults and necessitates light lifting, bending, raking, planting, etc.

Rooms:   Double rooms with private baths, some singles available at a higher rate.  Rooms are accessible and all classroom/service activities will be on ground level.  Gulfside is a smoke-free facility.  Participants should clearly mark their applications if they have: [1] difficulty climbing stairs, [2] special dietary needs [i.e., low salt, vegetarian, etc.] [3] special medical needs.  

First meal: Dinner on October 8, 2002

Last meal: Breakfast on October 13, 2002

Transportation:  Detailed instructions regarding travel arrangements will be provided as a follow-up to registration.  Shuttle service from the airport is not included in the above cost.
