Experience:  Participants will experience Acadian [Cajun], Native American and Black cultures through presentations, site visits, music, dance and cuisine.  The event will include  a visit to the oldest US rice mill, Governor’s mansion, a Cajun restaurant with music and dancing and Avery Island and Jungle Gardens---home of the Tabasco industry.  Participants will have the opportunity to tour and work in the UMCOR Depot where material resources are processed for national disaster response and for international relief.

Mission service:  Participants will work in the UMCOR depot assembling kits and packing them for distribution throughout the world. 

Rooms:  Double occupancy rooms with shared baths only.  Facility is handicapped-accessible and provides housing for handicapped participants upon request.  Delicious meals are served in large new dining facility.  Large and very beautiful campus located on the Bayou Teche, has level ground and is wheelchair accessible.

First meal:  Dinner on October 27, 2002

Last meal:   Breakfast on November 2, 2002

Transportation: For those traveling by air, please use the New Orleans airport or the Lafayette, Louisiana Airport.  Car rentals are available at both airports.  Transportation to the Sager-Brown campus can be arranged ahead of time by contacting UMCOR Sager-Brown.  Participants are responsible for the planning of such transportation as well as the cost. For participants who are driving, directions will be given as you register
