New NOMADS Director: Marcia FlorkeyThe NOMADS Board has announced the selection of Ms. Marcia Florkey as its new director. NOMADS is an acronym for "Nomads On a Mission Active in Divine Service," now a program of the Mission Volunteers unit of the General Board of Global Ministries.
Ms. Florkey, who began her responsibilities at the beginning of August, attended Miami University of Ohio and received her B.S. in Elementary Education and M. Ed. in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton. She taught in the Huber Heights City Schools for fourteen years. Currently she is completing her classes at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH as a Deaconess Candidate.
Marcia served as the West Ohio Conference Volunteers in Mission coordinator for four years, taught in Schools of Christian Mission for United Methodist Women and has served and led Volunteer in Mission teams in the United States, Puerto Rico and South Africa. She is part of the core ministry team in the new church start of Cross Point United Methodist in Trotwood, OH. She and husband Jim have three adult children and one grandchild.
NOMADS is a Volunteers in Mission program for persons with recreational vehicles who winter in the sunbelt and are willing to work for three weeks in a United Methodist related project/program, an ecumenical program or in disaster response. The major work time is from January through March in southern states with Spring, Summer and Fall projects scheduled for mid-central and northern states.
