Urgent need for work teams in Belize City
Rev. Dr. Lesley G. Anderson, Belize District President of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA), has issued an urgent request for assistance. The John and Charles Wesley Educational, Social and Cultural Centre in Belize City will be the site for the Triennial Conference of the MCCA this spring. The building is not complete. Dr. Anderson has appealed for teams to assist in the completion of the building:
"We have made great progress with the John and Charles Wesley Educational, Social and Cultural Centre. We need to complete this project by the end of March and therefore could benefit from at least two Work Teams. We will need masons, carpenters, painters, and persons who are willing to learn or already know how to lay tiles. In view of the urgent need, we will be happy to have at least three teams come in March 2000 to assist us with the finishing. Each can bring at least $2,500. We are desperate, because we expect to host the MCCA Triennial Conference, and the Centre will be the venue. Six years ago the project became a Wesley Congregational project. URGENT NEED FOR HELP!"
More recently, Dr. Anderson added, "We are already in March and therefore with all the hope and best wishes in the world, the [lead time may not be sufficient] for Work Teams, hence I wish to suggest [to] expand the time to the end of April. If Work Teams cannot raise the amount requested, even US$1,500 will be helpful than to get nothing at all. I will do my best if a Work Team is strapped for funds to assist by having them stay in one of our vacant manses. That will save on paying hotel bills, which money could very well go into the project. I am truly desperate at this time."
