United Methodist Women’s Green Team calls on all United Methodist women to participate in a letter-writing campaign that calls on paper supply chains, such as Office Depot, Office Max and Corporate Express, to stock their shelves with PCF third party certified paper. In addition, United Methodist Women who do not have access to these major suppliers should obtain information from their local suppliers regarding the source of their paper so that similar letters can be written. We recommend continuing to send letters to FedEx-Kinko’s and Staples as we have been dialoguing with them.
Background: The Women’s Division has carried out a series of campaigns calling for PCF paper with Kinko’s and Staples over the past two quadrennia. Kinko’s makes a practice of stocking their copy machines with PCF paper as well as stocking them on their shelves. Staples is still in the process of making arrangements with the Cascades paper supplier in getting PCF paper on their shelves. Staples has recognized United Methodist Women’s commitment to restoring the environment and saving human lives and vows to follow through with their pledge to environmental stewardship. The Green Team is now calling on United Methodist Women to move on to putting the pressure on other paper supply chains to demonstrate an environmentally sound code of conduct as paper retailers and wholesalers. See the attached sample letters to Office Depot, Office Max and Corporate Express.
