On the Second Anniversary of the Iraq War, join thousands who are remembering those who have died and their families and calling for the troops to come home:

  • Find time to pray for peace during this time with your circle, family and friends;
  • Include a special prayer for peace in your Sunday worship service;
  • Hold a candlelight vigil and offer prayers at a local street corner with your friends and neighbors;
  • Join activities that are organized in your community as listed below in websites -

To honor the lives lost in the Iraq War.

Since March 19, 2003, more than 1,500 U.S. soldiers have been killed, thousands more injured and wounded, and 100,000 Iraqis, civilians and soldiers, have been killed.

On March 18, 19 and 20th, communities across the country will commemorate the loss of life in Iraq and call for the U.S. to bring the troops home now.  Various kinds of gatherings are planned for this weekend to commemorate the second anniversary of the Iraq War. Sojourners has organized ecumenical events around the country; the American Friends Service Committee plans a variety of religious events; and United for Peace & Justice has organized a major campaign for action against the war throughout North America.  Actions will range from marches and rallies to silent vigils, civil disobedience actions, interfaith services, musical and theatre performances, and art exhibits.  Events will take place on main streets and courthouse squares, alongside highways and bridges, in public parks and in front of military recruiting stations, at statehouses and Congressional offices.

Please refer to these links to see what events are taking place and how you can participate or hold similar types of events in your own community:
