INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES WITH WOMEN, CHILDREN AND YOUTH HIGHER EDUCATION INITIATIVE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON SHORT TERM EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGES IN 2005 AND 2006 FOR WOMEN IN SELECTED INSTITUTIONS IN ASIA, LATIN AMERICA AND THE UNITED STATES
Short Term Educational Exchange Opportunities will be available in 2005 for women faculty and administrators and in 2006 for women faculty, administrators or students for a three to five month period. Up to nine exchanges will be facilitated through the Higher Education Initiative in 2005 and up to nine in 2006, as needed. Significant exchanges have been occurring between the core group of institutions with local initiation and support. This is a heartening outgrowth of the relationships built and understandings gained when together in 2000 for an International Consultation on Women in Higher Education convened by the Women’s Division.
Eighteen (18) collegiate mission institutions are eligible to apply for this Educational Exchange opportunity:
ASIA:
- Aoyama Gakuin, Tokyo, Japan

- Kwassui Gakuin, Hiroshima, Japan
- Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea

- Hiroshima Jogakuin University, Hiroshima, Japan
- Mary Johnston School of Nursing/ Philippine Christian University, Manila, the Philippines
LATIN AMERICA:
- Instituto Metodista Bennett, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Instituto Metodista de Educacao e Cultura (IMEC), Porto Alegre, Brazil
- Methodist University of Piracicaba, Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil
UNITED STATES:

Only one exchange will be supported by the Women’s Division’s Higher Education Initiative during the two year period of 2005 and 2006 for an eligible institution. It is expected that both the sending institution and the receiving institution will be in partnership with the Women’s Division in order to make these exchanges possible. Minimally, these would be the expectations:
SENDING INSTITUTION:
- Continue the salary of faculty member or administrator while on a short term exchange
RECEIVING INSTITUTION:
- Provide housing, food, hospitality and general assistance, as needed, to the visiting person.
- Name one local person to coordinate and be accountable for the exchange experience for the visitor.
WOMEN’S DIVISION:
- Underwrite one round trip travel excursion between the present institution and one visited for the educational exchange.
- Provide a small monthly stipend for additional direct expenses,insurance and necessary miscellaneous costs, if needed.
