| Changes are in the
wind! Beginning in January 1997, much of United Methodist Women's organizational structure and
many officer titles will change, and the Reading Program will change, too. As new names
for the four mission coordinators take effect, so will
new names for the four categories of the Reading Program. Since the mid 1970s, category names have paralleled those of the mission coordinators. The new category names, however, will not be exact duplicates of the mission coordinators' titles. Beginning with the 1997 Reading Program list, which follows, you will find the following changes:
Most everything else about the Reading Program remains the same, especially the high quality of books! Get started on your reading soon. Choose a plan, order the books,* read and report your reading to your local unit secretary of program resources by Dec. 15, 1997, or by the date required by your conference or district. (Previously, reading was reported to the mission coordinator for Christian personhood.) On the following pages you will find a brief description of each book. Books vary in level of difficulty, type of print, and suitability for study and discussion. Unless designated as easy or difficult reading, books are average reading. Prices are for paperbacks unless otherwise indicated. Abbreviations found in the listings include:
Order books from the Service Center. Credit cards are accepted for phone orders. *Some books from past years may no longer be available from the Service Center. Under the new organization of the Women's Division, Brenda Thompson, Reading Program Specialist, will coordinate the Reading Program.
