| HYMNS FROM THE PACIFIC ISLANDS |
| by Joyce D. Sohl |
 |
To sing of justice in the midst of the beauty of the Pacific Islands is to confront contrasts between the beauty of God’s creation and weapons that destroy the earth. |
 |
| |
O our God, you created this our world by your Word,
powerful life and wondrous love.
Thank you, Lord, for your blessings in our land
help us guard and conserve your gifts with care. |

Touch the earth lightly,
use the earth gently,
nourish the life of the world in our care;
gift of great wonder,
ours to surrender,
trust for the children tomorrow will bear. |

To sing of justice in the midst of the beauty of the Pacific Islands is to stand with native peoples who face daily discrimination and to challenge the privilege of those in power. |

Christians join the cause of Jesus!
Hope in Christ! Prepare for action!
Take heart! Struggle! Never fall back!
Christ will bring the day of vict’ry
Venture forth! Now claim Christ’s way,
struggle on! Soon Christ will win the day! |

God weeps
at love withheld,
at strength misused,
at children’s innocence abused,
and till we change the way we love,
God weeps.
God waits
for stones to melt,
for peace to seed,
for hearts to hold each other’s need,
and till we understand the Christ,
God waits. |

When we are torn and pulled apart by hate
because our race, our skin is not the same,
while we are judged unequal by the state
and victims made because we own our name,
humanity reduced to little worth,
dishonored is your living face on earth.
