Membership Campaign Celebrated
Close to 1,000 units of United Methodist Women were organized or re-organized during the six-year membership campaign. From January 1996 through October 2002, 627 new units formed and 232 units reorganized.
Among new units were 53 district units -- units based in a district rather than local church; 35 Korean-American units; and 26 Hispanic-American units.
An emphasis on outreach to teen and college-university women resulted in creation of 20 district units for these women. Other district units included:
Outreach to women ages 18-39 not in colleges or universities and women in language groups beyond Korean and Spanish began. Consultations with Vietnamese-American United Methodist Women and with Asian-American and Pacific Island women including Hawaiian, Laotian, Tongan, South Asian, Hmong, Vietnamese, Samoan, Japanese, Chinese, Fijian, Cambodian and Filipina were held.
