Mission Update

Technology and Mission Through Computer Refurbishment and Distribution

A lot has been said about the digital divide – a reality of the technological age where those living in poverty are being left farther behind because of the lack of access to computer.

But the Women’s Division helped begin a special initiative in March 2002 to try to bridge this divide. To date more than 500 machines have been shipped to places such as Fiji, Samoa, Philippines, Kenya, Armenia and Haiti.

In collaboration with Non-profit Computing, Click Aid, and the Feed the Children programs, the Women’s Division has been providing used computers, printers and communications equipment to churches, schools and colleges, seminaries, libraries, grassroots

organizations, orphanages and organizations which serve physically-challenged individuals.

The demand for this equipment is great (so far over 5,000 machines). The challenges have been to provide quality machines as well as to store, pack and transport the equipment. The Division is continuing research the environmental implications and look for international and United Nations partners to meet the challenges.
