Mission Update
Assembly 2002 Plans Are in Full Swing
Registrations are on track for the 2002
Assembly of United Methodist Women to be held at the Pennsylvania Convention
Center in Philadelphia, Penn., April 25-28. Directors heard a report about the
plans for the Assembly, which include:
- Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of Children's Defense Fund as
a morning speakers
- Musimbi R.A. Kanyoro, General Secretary, World YWCA from Geneva,
Switzerland, as a morning speaker. She will present with a young woman, and
her presentation will include video clips of women from around the world
speaking about their issues.
- Celia Rene Esparza, Executive Director of United Community Centers in Ft.
Worth, Texas, as a morning speaker
- Rev. Heasum Kim, consultant to the Women’s Division on Korean resources
and issues, as one morning Bible Study Leader
- Barbara Lundblad, Union Theological Seminary, as one morning Bible Study
Leader
- Special music, dancing, over 60 focus groups, exhibits, and a late night
option.
- Opportunities for women to do hands-on mission (see Registration packet).
