Covenant

As described by May, "Covenant is an agreement in which all parties pledge themselves to the others. It outlines mutual obligations and responsibilities. Basic to covenant theology is the idea that the Israelites have been specially chosen by Yahweh…Yahweh promises to give the land of Canaan to the Israelites. In return, they must worship and obey only Yahweh as their God." The first five books of the Bible -- the Torah, or Law -- tell what it means to worship and obey Yahweh.
