Note: the editor of this English translation of the Gospel of Mary is not implying that Mary Magdalene and Mary of Bethany are the same. What is meant is that the words from the Gospel of Mary are parallel or echo these in John 11:15. The writer of The Gospel of Mary may have believed she and Mary of Bethany were the same person or drew from fragments of oral tradition that did not distinguish between these two Marys.
