Renew Network questions to Women's Division
1

Theological Integrity
How do the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the one and only Savior of the world, and the Lord of all, and the fact that the Scripture is the complete, divinely inspired revelation of the Triune God in matters of faith and practice, influence the mission, policy, and publications of the Women’s Division?

2

Local UMW Accountability
What do you see as the ideal relationship between the local church and its United Methodist Women’s unit, and in what specific ways is the local UMW unit accountable to the local church?  Because of the diversity among the women of the United Methodist Church, supplemental ministries connected to the local church do exist.  Please explain why it would not enhance the fulfilling of the mission of Christ and the Church to officially sanction supplemental women’s ministries beyond, or in addition to, a local unit of United Methodist Women, as was done by United Methodist Men.

3

Conservatism/Fundamentalism/Extremism
What role does the authority of Scripture play in matters of faith and practice, and what tenets of the faith are “essential” in a cultural climate where some identify “conservative,” “evangelical,” and “fundamentalist” as synonymous—even to the point of identifying mainstream, evangelical Christians with radical Islamic extremists?  Also, please provide specifics as to how cultural, political, and religious conservatism are perceived by the Women’s Division as major deterrents to women’s work and ministry.

4

Political/Social Action
Given the diversity in American society, in our churches, and among the women of the UMC, what processes are followed to ensure that the political and social actions of the Women’s Division represent the values and beliefs of a broad spectrum of United Methodist Women?  What programs and policies might the Women’s Division advance that would reflect and incorporate a variety of political views and differing approaches to solving societal problems—thereby engendering acceptance, support, and funding from women across a broad political and social spectrum?
