Beginnings: Worldviews and the Sacred

Let's start our journey right where we are.

• What are some of your family and cultural traditions?
• Where have you travelled?
• What are your hobbies or interests?

Many things affect the way we view the world and understand stories:

• Our lives;
• our experiences;
• our traditions;
• the things we have learned from other people, cultures, countries; and
• our hobbies, interests, knowledge.

Sacred--

any thing, place, story, person, that helps us become close to God.

What is sacred to you? All of these? Some of these but not others? More than these? Give examples.

Take the Highway

Explore the highways of time. Learn about the Old Testament World and Middle Eastern people's ideas about what is sacred.

Choose a Byway

1. Learn about New Testament Worldviews (but you might want to look at Old Testament Worldviews first!)

2. Experience the sacred through hymns or art.
