Women and Media Truth or Lies
Media advocacy is an important way women can make

Proposed Federal Budget for FY 2007
On Monday February 6, 2006 President George Bush presented
his $2.77 trillion fiscal year (FY) 2007 budget to Congress. This
proposal came only days after Congress passed a budget
reconciliation bill for FY 2006, in which $40 billion will be cut
from entitlement programs, programs that are governed by
legislation in a way that legally obligates the federal government
to make specific payments to qualified recipients, over five years
which include programs such as Medicaid, welfare, child support
and student lending.

Church Burnings Continue and Christians Must Renew Efforts, Say Leaders
When the clusters of churches were burned last week in
Alabama, the national media began asking questions about hate,
and federal officials opened investigations.
According to those who have been working to end church
burnings for years, these acts of arson raise questions about
broader issues than those portrayed in the media spin or
investigators' quotes.

Black History Month and United Methodist Women: Why We Celebrate
As part of its story, the history of United Methodist Women has
the legacy of women – all calling for a just world for all of God’s
children -- who are willing to be risk-takers amid the social
settings of criticism and prejudices.
During Black History Month, we celebrate those women and
understand that their dreams came from the Gospel teachings of
Jesus Christ as he ministered to all of God’s children.

Keeping the pipes of life connected, so the waters of faith can flow like rivers of everlasting life. A devotion by Sung-Ok Lee.
Being in mission as a member of United Methodist Women is like
being a plumber. A plumber connects pipes, replaces old pipes,
fixes leaks and unclogs drains. When plumbers succeed, we
enjoy clean water from free flowing faucets.
As I reflect on my role as a member of United Methodist Women,
I am reminded of Jesus’ vocation as a carpenter, a builder. He
also built a movement for justice and peace that helped the
people of his time expand concepts of mission. He succeeded by
staying connected to people.
