New Women's Division leader shares commitment to women in higher education
In August 2004, Dr. Janice Love began as the new
chief executive officer of the Women's Division with a
vision that continues the legacy left by foremothers of
the organization. One aspect of this vision is a
commitment to women in higher education.

New Principal at Kinnaird College For Women
Kinnaird College for Women in Lahore, Pakistan, has a
new principal. She is Ira Hasan, a graduate of Kinnaird
College for Women, who is presently completing her
Ph.D. at the University of North Washington. Principal
Hasan's previous position at the school was as
Associate Professor and Head of the Post-Graduate
Program for English Literature.

Planning for the future of women's education
Ms. Machado is a college student at Rede Ipa, Porto
Alegre, Brazil, who shared her story of overcoming
social, economic, cultural, and racial barriers to have
access to education. Now, she is pursuing her dream of
transforming her life and impacting her community
through the Ecumenical Center for Black Culture
(CECUNE).

Newly Invited Higher Education Institutions in Latin America for the 2005
Leadership Institute for Women Students
The Colegio Centenario (Centenary School) in Santa
Maria, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was founded
in 1922 by two women missionaries, Eunice Andrews
and Louise Best. It began with seven women students
and four teachers (two Americans and two Brazilians).

New Short Term Exchanges
Opportunities will be available in Asia, Latin America
and the United States in 2005 for faculty or
administrators. In 2006 there will be opportunities for
faculty, administrators, and students. These exchanges
are envisioned for a three-to-five month period.

Barbara E. Campbell writes new mission story
Barbara E. Campbell, retired Women's Division staff,
deaconess, and unofficial historian of the Women's
Division, is in the process of writing a new book that will
be available through the Service Center of GBGM, in
2005.

EWHA Womans university graduates are changing Korea
Ewha women are changing the history of Korea! In
April, 11 of the 39 women who won election to the 17th
National Assembly were Ewha graduates. Its President,
In-ryung Shin, was granted the government's "Hwang
Jo Geun Jeong" award for contributions to law
education, law scholarship, and human rights.

Women's Division demonstrate for equal access to voting
More than 60 Women's Division directors and
staff
lined a main thoroughfare in Stamford, Conn.,
during
the lunch hour Saturday, Oct. 16, holding signs
urging
passersby to vote and calling for voting
procedures that
ensure all people of all races have equal access
to
voting.

Say That I'm a Child of God: Children's Sabbath 2004
Once again this month, thousands of United
Methodist congregations will join other people
of faith in their communities – Christian,
Unitarian, Jewish, Baha’i, Muslim – to celebrate
Children’s Sabbath. Sponsored by the Children’s
Defense Fund and endorsed by over 200
denominations and faith groups including the
United Methodist General Conference, this is an
annual interfaith opportunity to join in prayer,
education, and advocacy on behalf of children
and their families.
