Women of UMC Call for Peace in U.S. Counter-Narcotics Policy
April 24, 2001 -- The shooting down of a plane
over Peru which killed an American woman and her
infant is just one instance of violence against
innocent people caused by the U.S. war on drugs,
according to a new Women’s Division resolution.
On Monday, directors of the Women’s Division of
the United Methodist Church voted to appeal to
the U.S. Administration and Congress for policies
and programs that would reform U.S. Counter
Narcotics Policy.

United Methodist Women's Division Speaks Out on Trade Issues
April 24, 2001 -- As people from around the world
gathered in Quebec this weekend to protest the
Free Trade of the Americas Agreement, United
Methodist Women leaders gathered in Connecticut
to discuss what they could do about trade issues.
Concerned with how trade agreements affect women
and children, Women’s Division directors acted.
They passed resolutions addressing genetically
engineered food and trade with Myanmar, formerly
Burma.
