Hearing God's Call to Love, Not Hate
For most who strive to be faithful Christians, it
is shocking to define our calling to follow Jesus
in terms of hating other people. We think of
ourselves as people of faith who would never
accept such a wrong-headed notion. But if we
agree that Jesus would never tell us to hate
certain kinds of people, why is there so much
hatred directed against others in the name of
Jesus Christ?

For Such a Time As This
Now let’s look closely at this story. Esther
became queen after the king of Persia disposed of
Vashti, a prior queen, because she refused to
come to him when he hailed her to show her off to
his buddies at a banquet. The king did not know
Esther was a Jew, who was in exile in his
kingdom, nor did he know she was Mordecai’s niece.
