Medicine Boxes

There is an urgent need for Medicine Boxes in many parts of the world. A Medicine Box contains over-the-counter products given by groups and churches, combined with prescription medications purchased by Interchurch Medical Assistance or donated by pharmaceutical companies. Each box is designed to serve a community of 1000 people for a period of three months. These are basic medicines and supplies needed for the day-to-day treatment of common ailments the plague babies and their mothers, children, youth and adults. The supplies are basic, but can be life-saving.

Currently UMCOR and the Health and Welfare Unit of the General Board of Global Ministries have received requests for several hundred Medicine Boxes from: Russia, Honduras, Angola, Puerto Rico, Mozambique, Lithuania, Haiti, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Georgia.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!–not only in assembling and sending Medicine Boxes, but in accurately promoting this mission opportunity. There are very specific instructions for assembling a Medicine Box. In addition to the list of particular over-the-counter products, each Medicine Box requires a $375.00 financial donation. The financial contribution helps pay for the prescription medicines that are added to the box and shipping costs to get the box to its final destination. A Medicine Box is not a Medicine Box without the $375.00. UMCOR cannot accept the over-the-counter medications unless the $375.00 is given as well. We encourage smaller groups that have difficulty raising the funds to make this a church-wide or even a community-wide project.

Instruction packets for assembling a Medicine Box are available from the Service Center (800) 305-9857. Instructions can also be found on the GBGM website: http://gbgm-umc.org/health/medbox/
