Kosovo... Sudan . . . Bosnia . . . Sierra Leone-- all bring to mind a succession of international tragedies and refugee exoduses that have exacted huge tolls in terms of human suffering. Deep-seated problems have found an outlet in xenophobia and ethnic cleansing, leaving immense challenges to governments and international organizations involved in bringing to an end the continuing misery of refugees.
Some United Methodist Churches in the United States have felt moved to respond in a personal way by reaching out to sponsor refugees approved for resettlement in the United States, while others help fund refugee projects in many countries through Advance Specials.
With the help of UMCOR and the Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program, United Methodist churches throughout the United States have reached out to refugees and touched the lives of thousands of people, making it possible for healing to begin.
