Agriculture
Through the Development of Agricultural Processing and Marketing Co-operatives
(DAPMC) Project, funded by HEKS, UMCOR collaborated with local communities in
Gnjilane/Gjilan and Mitrovica/Mitrovicë, municipal authorities and other
organizations to rehabilitate and enhance the capacity of three agricultural
co-operatives to better serve the needs of their members. The three agricultural
co-operatives were rehabilitated which included: two cooperatives equipped for
milk collection and processing; a four-month training-of-trainers program
conducted for 487 co-operative members on co-operative management, bookkeeping
and financial management, stocks and inventory control, marketing and business
plan preparation, crops and livestock production, beekeeping, milk collection
and processing techniques. Over 1,500 individuals registered as a member of one
of the three co-operatives.UMCOR Kosovo's Agriculture and Income Generation Staff jointly implemented the Integrated Agricultural Development Program (IADP), which was funded through proceeds from the sale of commodities (such as vegetable oil, maize and soybean meal) under USDA's monetization program. Activities included the disbursement of micro-credit loans to approximately 60 agriculturally-based businesses and farms in Mitrovica/Mitrovicë Municipality; provision of agricultural inputs in the form
of small equipment, seeds and livestock to some 130 vulnerable households in
exchange for the distribution of a portion of their produce to vulnerable
members of their community; and provision of technical assistance and business
training to program participants.
