Stolac

Before   After

Enes Kohnic and his invalid mother, Sabira, returned to Stolac town in 2003 after living in displacement in Blagaj Municipality for 9 years. Before the war, Mrs Kohnic worked in the metal factory and her son worked in a factory which produced reinforcing for concrete structures.

With UMCOR reconstruction assistance under a Dutch government funded project, Mr Kohnic rebuilt their house in the original style, characteristic for Stolac, from the local sandstone.

Mr Kohnic has created a small pond area in which he has set up a small trout breeding farm. Water from the neighboring river Bregava keeps a through current in the pond and keeps water clean. He has applied for a subsidized loan under the current UMCOR / USAID income generation program. He currently has 40 kilos of fish but if his loan application is successful, he will buy more stock. He has calculated that the current capacity of his pond area is 200 kilos of fish.
