Refugee Assistance Programs
UMCOR BiH established twelve playrooms,
later renamed Outreach Centers, in 1995. These were designed to provide
displaced youth living in collective centers with a safe place to grow, both
physically and emotionally, and to play. Throughout the duration of the project,
the centers were opened and closed as appropriate in order to respond more
effectively to the needs of a fluctuating and mobile population. In 2002, UMCOR
supported eight Outreach Centers in Collective Centers at Putovici, Arnauti,
Moscanica and Banlozi as well as in Turbe, Nemila, Vogosca and Doboj, serving
over 400 children. UMCOR BiH subsequently transitioned five of the centers to
local community groups who are now sole administrators and supervisors.
