UMCOR continues to work with Rapprochement to repair and rebuild homes in Beit Sahour that have been heavily damaged or destroyed by Israeli shelling. Volunteers in Mission teams will help with the rebuilding and provide a ministry of presence.
UMCOR is also supporting the efforts of the The Shepherd's Society, a Palestinian charitable organization, to alleviate some of the pressure caused by the closures. Because of the closures, many Palestinians cannot travel to their jobs. With no income, they are struggling to meet their everyday needs. The Shepherds' Society provides coupons for food and assistance in paying utility bills, school fees, medical expenses, and other necessary expenses. They have also begun a trauma conseling program. The society is especially reaching out to children who have beeb traumatized by the close proximity of the shelling.
Early in the fighting, UMCOR responded to requests for assistance from the Palestinian Augusta Victoria Hospital. The hospital's medical supplies had been depleted meeting the needs of those who were injured in the violence.
