Floods, hurricanes and tornadoes have hurt thousands in many areas of the United States. These natural disasters have taken their hardest toll on persons who can least afford the cash and energy it takes to recover: older adults, the ill, the underemployed or unemployed. The toll is a quiet one. The media have come and gone, but the recovery will continue for two to five years.

The United Methodist Council of Bishops has called for a Churchwide Appeal for USA Domestic Disasters. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) already is responding to these disasters through annual conference disaster relief coordinators and our faith-based partners. Funds from this appeal will enable continued assistance, including emergency cleanup, materials for reconstruction of damaged homes and long-term recovery plans.

For this Churchwide Appeal, please give generously to UMCOR Advance #901670, Domestic Disaster Response. Give through a local United Methodist church or send monetary contributions to: UMCOR, 475 Riverside Dr., Room 330, New York, NY 10115. Call 1-800-554-8583 to make a credit card donation.
