April 29, 1997
As flood waters receded in the Dakotas and Minnesota, United Methodists continued organizing relief efforts there.
On April 29 the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) opened a new 13,500-square-foot warehouse and office facility in Minneapolis.
According to Virginia Miller, UMCOR's disaster response manager, donated cleaning supplies -- disinfectants, household cleaners, buckets, mops, shovels, brooms, rakes, rubber boots and gloves -- are needed urgently.
Flood victims need linens, personal items such as toothbrushes, soap and shampoo, first aid supplies and baby items.
UMCOR also is collecting nonperishable foods, canned juices, bottled water and paper goods, such as plates, cups, toilet tissue, plastic cutlery and paper towels. Household furniture will be needed at a later date.
Miller stressed that no clothing should be sent to the warehouse.
