The director of United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) work in the former Yugoslavia was among the people meeting with President Clinton on his recent trip to Bosnia.
Dirk Van Gorp was invited to a Jan. 14 meeting in Tuzla by U.S. Embassy staff in Sarajevo. UMCOR was one of four humanitarian organizations asked to send representatives to greet the president. Because of schedule changes, caused by inclement weather, the meeting was very brief.
Since the spring of 1993, UMCOR has worked in the former Yugoslavia with reconstruction of damaged buildings; provision of water and sanitation, emergency food, clothing and medical supplies; development of community-based agricultural livestock programs; and the establishment of social, recreational and occupational projects for women, children and youth.
