Providing economic alternatives in difficult times

Wajdi Munar, 19, graduated in 2002 from the ACT-supported Vocational Training Center, run by the Lutheran World Federation in Beit Hanina. Today he is one of a minority of Palestinians with steady employment.

Israeli curfews, road closures, checkpoints, and military incursions all combine to mean disaster for the Palestinian economy, and unemployment runs at 60 to 70 percent in many communities. Action by Churches Together (ACT) , working through its member churches and agencies to provide new opportunities for vocational training and income generation projects, is helping women and men throughout the Palestinian territories to survive economically and experience the dignity of helping construct a viable Palestinian society.
