The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Sager Brown Depot, the warehouse where United Methodist relief supplies are stored and shipped, is hard at work meeting relief supply needs for hurricane-stricken areas. Gwen Redding, executive director of UMCOR Sager Brown, reports that they have set up a call center through which they are calling shelters and other locations inquiring about their needs. These requests are sent to the depot, filled as supplies are available, and then dispatched to the area in need. “We will try to get necessary supplies to any annual conference that requests it,” notes Redding. Those requests typically come through the conference’s disaster response coordinator. In addition to other necessary items, about 8,000 health kits have been sent to those who need them.
“United Methodists are the most generous people,” says Redding of the response Sager Brown has received following the Depot’s initial requests for health kits, blankets, and water. In fact, the response has been so great for bottled water that the UMCOR Sager Brown no longer needs bottled water donations.
