Print-friendly
These photos, available in low resolution web versions and high resolution print versions may be used to promote the United Methodist Church's emergency response to hurricanes in 2004 and the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). All photos were taken in the Arcadia area of Florida by Mary Gaudreau, director of care ministries of the Oklahoma Annual Conference Disaster Response. She is onsite to work with the Florida Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church on issues of congregational and longterm recovery spiritual and emotional care.
The photos show some of the devastation in Arcadia and Trinity United Methodist Church, a site of ministry in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley. Debris from Charley's onslaught is scattered around the church building. With help from volunteers from throughout the Florida Annual Conference, Trinity's members have provided hot meals to the community, distributed food and cleaning items to neighborhood homes, and helped remove debris and do minor household repair. Volunteers are being deployed from more than 35 sites across the disaster area.
