Floods in India and Pakistan 2001-2003In 2002, the worst flooding in two decades devastated parts of the Indian state of Orissa. There was tremendous loss of life, homes, infrastructure, crops, and livestock. Millions of people had to flee their homes. Record rainfall in Pakistan caused severe flash flooding in Islamabad and the surrounding region. Many people have lost their lives and thousands of homes and businesses were heavily damaged or destroyed. UMCOR worked through our ecumenical partner in India, CASA (Churches' Auxiliary for Social Action).
