Many farm workers in Florida are out of work because of the extensive destruction of crops due to Hurricanes Floyd and Irene. United Methodist Churches are providing food vouchers and working to meet other needs. People in North Carolina continue to clean up following the flooding and are waiting for their homes to dry enough to begin repairs. UMCOR staff have returned from the Bahamas and report that small teams of volunteers will be needed for cleanup and repair work from Hurricane Floyd devastation. Your gifts to the Churchwide Appeal, Advance #982460-1 will provide assistance to people in Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oklahoma, the Bahamas and Mexico as they recover from flooding, landslides and tornadoes. Volunteers please call (800) 918-3100.
The UMCOR staff in Turkey continue to provide assistance with shelter for earthquake survivors and are working with ecumenical partners to develop plans to reconstruct primary schools. Your gifts to UMCOR Advance #675205-6 "Turkey Earthquake" will help insure that UMCOR can provide long-term assistance in Turkey. UMCOR has sent a financial grant to the Methodist Church in Taiwan to support their earthquake relief efforts. Give to Advance #201325-3 "Taiwan Earthquake."
In Kosovo, UMCOR continues its reconstruction and food security programs and is working with ACT (Action by Churches Together) on proposals to rehabilitate sheep farms, and develop parent-teacher associations and a youth house in Pristina. To support UMCOR's ongoing work in Kosovo, give to International Disaster Response #982450-8.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist Churches, or by
