The cyclone that struck India has affected 15 million people, leaving them stranded, homeless and hungry. The death toll is expected to rise into the thousands. UMCOR is responding through partner agencies with a financial grant for relief and recovery work. UMCOR has an ongoing relationship with church agencies in India to ensure that they are prepared to respond to emergency situations. You may join in this response by giving to UMCOR's International Disaster Response #982450-8. Designate your gift "India Cyclone." UMCOR staff are currently in the Bahamas meeting with Methodist church leaders and members to continue to assess the damage and develop recovery plans from the devastation of Hurricane Floyd . Please continue to give to the Churchwide Appeal for Major Storm Devastation '99, Advance #982460-1. Your gifts will assist people in the Bahamas, North Carolina and other eastern states, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mexico as they recover from devastating floods and tornadoes. UMCOR is sending financial grants to help provide food and other emergency supplies for refugees from Angola and other displaced people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and for people in Burundi suffering from civil strife. Please give to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, #982450-8.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist Churches, or by
calling (800) 554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted at that number.
There will be many opportunities for volunteer work teams over the next several months in
many areas of the United States and in other countries. Please call the Volunteer Line at (800) 918-3100 to find out more.
Please pray for all who suffer from natural and human-made disasters, hunger, and poverty. UMCOR Hotline: |
