Shelter is the most urgent need of survivors of the earthquake in Turkey. UMCOR's ongoing response will focus on meeting this need–through reconstruction, fabricated housing, and in the short-term, winterized tents. UMCOR staff have established an office in Turkey and will continue to work with international and local ecumenical partners. Please give to Advance #675205-6. In the wake of the murders of government officials in Armenia, UMCOR staff report that UMCOR personnel and volunteer work teams are not in danger. There are no major disruptions to daily life, further outbreaks are not anticipated, and UMCOR's programs have not been affected. Please pray for the people of Armenia and their government as they struggle to recover from this loss. You may support UMCOR's ongoing work with health care, agriculture, income-generation and youth projects in Armenia by giving to Advance #250225-8. In North Carolina, the flooding was so widespread that disaster workers are still making door-to-door assessments in an effort to reach victims who may not have sought help yet or been reached by a disaster response agency. UMCOR staff are traveling to the Bahamas this coming week to meet with church leaders and victims of Hurricane Floyd to develop further recovery plans. Your gifts to the Churchwide Appeal for Major Storm Devastation '99, Advance #982460-1 are urgently needed to help people recover from flooding in North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the Bahamas and Mexico, and from tornadoes in Kansas and Oklahoma.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist Churches, or by calling (800) 554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted at that number.
Please pray for all who suffer from natural and human-made disasters, hunger, and poverty. UMCOR Hotline: |
