Shelter is the most urgent need of survivors of the earthquake in Turkey. In the wake of the murders of government officials in Armenia, UMCOR staff report that UMCOR personnel and volunteer work teams are not in danger. There are no major disruptions to daily life, further outbreaks are not anticipated, and UMCOR's programs have not been affected. In North Carolina, the flooding was so widespread that disaster workers are still making door-to-door assessments in an effort to reach victims who may not have sought help yet or been reached by a disaster response agency. UMCOR staff are traveling to the Bahamas this coming week to meet with church leaders and victims of Hurricane Floyd to develop further recovery plans.
