Disaster response workers in the Florida conference are assessing flood damage from Hurricane Irene, and will be requesting financial support from UMCOR for recovery work. The Southeastern side of the state between Miami and Orlando was hardest hit. An UMCOR staff member will be traveling to the Bahamas in the next two weeks to work with Methodists there in response to Hurricane Floyd. In North Carolina, disaster workers are struggling to meet the demand for assessment. United Methodists in New Jersey are active participants in interfaith response efforts to the flooding there. Virginia Annual Conference disaster coordinators are providing leadership for interfaith response efforts, and they report that cleanup is progressing well. UMCOR staff are currently in Honduras where recovery from Hurricane Mitch continues. UMCOR staff and consultants are conducting disaster response training in the New Jersey and Rio Grande conferences and training is planned for the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference.

UMCOR is establishing an office in Turkey to facilitate long-term recovery work from the earthquake. In addition, UMCOR is working through ACT (Action by Churches Together) to provide people with winterized tents. Please give to UMCOR Advance #675205-6 "Turkey Earthquake."
