At the request of the Methodist Church in Mexico, UMCOR is sending initial emergency grants to help provide relief for people suffering from the floods and mudslides. Funds from the Churchwide Appeal will also assist people recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Floyd in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the Bahamas and from the May tornadoes in Oklahoma and Kansas. Volunteers are needed in many places: there is a shortage of volunteers in Texas where there is still much rebuilding work from last year's flooding, volunteers are urgently needed in New Jersey and Virginia and will continue to be needed in North Carolina. An UMCOR staff person is currently in Turkey assessing damage and developing plans for UMCOR's long-term response. To join in earthquake recovery efforts, give to Advance #675205-6. To help with recovery work in Taiwan, give to Advance #201325-3.
