Through ACT (Action by Churches Together) and the churches in Turkey, UMCOR is working to provide temporary shelter for families in Izmit and is looking into longer term rehabilitation of housing. ACT partners are supplying tents, kitchen facilities, school supplies, water, sanitation facilities, food and other aid.

   All material resources are being purchased locally, and the most effective way to respond to this crisis is through a financial contribution.     UMCOR is currently working in Kosovo to help winterize homes. The damage is so extensive and widespread, that the goal is to winterize one room per family to get through the winter. Full housing rehabilitation work must wait until next spring. UMCOR is also working to ensure food security through food distribution and agricultural recovery programs.    A truck filled with flood relief items, including flood buckets, other cleaning supplies, and power washers was sent to Laredo, Texas from the UMCOR Depot. These resources will be distributed to families affected by flooding from Hurricane Bret. It is now the peak of hurricane season, and your gifts to UMCOR's Hurricanes '99, Advance #982460-1 will ensure that UMCOR can respond to victims of this year's storms.
