UMCOR has opened an office in Pristina, Kosovo. UMCOR staff in Pristina and Skopje, Macedonia will coordinate UMCOR's recovery efforts. To date, United Methodists and other concerned persons have given four million dollars for relief and recovery efforts for the people of Kosovo. UMCOR will provide assistance in housing reconstruction, trauma healing and reconciliation.
Recovery work from Hurricane Mitch continues in Central America. UMCOR has sent four earth-block machines to Honduras and Nicaragua. They will be used to build houses. UMCOR is working with the Christian Commission on Development (CCD) in Honduras to provide construction materials for the next few years and to address issues of gender equality in property ownership. UMCOR and CCD are also providing Christian education, training religious leaders and promoting theological reflection and sharing on the experience of Christians living in a devastated country. You can join in theses ongoing physical and spiritual recovery efforts by supporting the Churchwide Appeal for Hurricanes '98, Advance #982515-0. At the request of the Dakotas and Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conferences, UMCOR is sending grants to respond to tornadoes that affected the Pine Ridge Sioux Indian Reservation and Native American households in Oklahoma. Your gifts to Spring Storms '99, Advance #901415-4 will assist people as they recover from the devastating tornadoes and floods of this past Spring.
Please pray for those who suffer from disasters, war, hunger and poverty. UMCOR Hotline: |
