United Methodists have been asked by the state of Oklahoma to coordinate all volunteers during the relief stage following the tornadoes. UMCOR consultants and volunteers are working with leaders from the Oklahoma Conference and the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference to help coordinate this work as well as providing assistance with logistics and management of the disaster relief warehouse. UMCOR staff will be in Kansas next week where interfaith groups have begun recovery work. A member of UMCOR's Catastrophic Disaster Response Team has been sent to DeKalb, Texas which was also devastated by a tornado. It will take years to recover from these storms. Please give generously to UMCOR's Spring Storms 99, Advance #901415-4. Persons interested in volunteering, please call (800) 918-3100.
UMCOR's ecumenical partner ACT (Action by Churches Together) is working with NATO to build refugee camps in Albania. ACT will provide materials and supervision during the construction of the camps and will run them when they are complete. ACT is also providing food for refugees and for their host families. In addition to working through ACT, UMCOR continues to work with Bishop Bolleter, United Methodist Churches in Macedonia, and CitiHope International to provide medicine, health care, and food to refugees and their host families in Macedonia. UMCOR in Bosnia is working with other agencies to meet the needs of 75,000 refugees from diverse ethnic groups. United Methodists in Central Europe are developing a healing center for women and children who have been abused and victimized during their expulsion from Kosovo and flight to safety in Macedonia.
To assist with the many ministries to Kosovar refugees, give to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, Advance #982450-8. Financial gifts may be given through your local United Methodist Church or call (800) 554-8583 to make a credit card donation.
