UMCOR staff, consultants and volunteers have been deployed to many areas of the U.S. to assist with recovery work. Four members of UMCOR's Catastrophic Disaster Response Team are working in the community of Littleton, Colorado to provide pastoral care. They will be leading workshops for children, youth and their care givers on healing from trauma. Other team members and volunteers have been sent to Louisiana and Georgia to help with assessment following recent tornadoes, and to Missouri to help coordinate recovery efforts from recent flooding. Four to five hundred homes were affected in the April 3 floods. Your gifts to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670-1 make this work possible.
UMCOR and Volunteers in Mission from the South Central and Southeastern Jurisdictions have joined together to conduct training sessions for First Response teams. United Methodists from every jurisdiction will eventually receive this training which is designed to enhance the church's immediate response to domestic disasters.
Please continue your generous gifts to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, #982450-8 for Kosovo refugee assistance. Give through your local United Methodist Church or call (800) 554-8583 to make a credit card donation. UMCOR continues to respond ecumenically and through our own United Methodist connections to provide food, shelter, sanitation, and medical care in Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia. Local congregations interested in assisting refugees who are coming to the U.S. should contact the UMCOR refugee resettlement office at 212-870-3807 or access the UMCOR Kosovo web page (http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/emergency/kosovo.stm). UMCOR needs thousands of health kits for the refugees. Please call the UMCOR Depot at (800) 814-8765 for instructions.
Please pray for those who suffer from war, violence, hunger and poverty.
