UMCOR is responding to the Kosovo refugee crisis ecumenically through our partner agency ACT (Action by Churches Together, the relief and development agency of the World Council of Churches). UMCOR has sent financial assistance to support ACT's work in Albania, Macedonia, and Montenegro. ACT is providing food for adults and infants, blankets, tents, hygiene supplies, water and medical assistance.

UMCOR's staff in Bosnia is responding to the approximately 17,000 refugees there. That number is expected to increase to 50,000. UMCOR is currently distributing food and blankets and working with the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees to develop plans for accommodating the refugees in Bosnia.

Through United Methodist Bishop Bolleter in Central Europe and the organization CitiHope, International, UMCOR is sending millions of dollars worth of medicine and medical supplies for the refugee population in Macedonia.

The most effective way to join in this emergency response is through a financial gift. Give to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, #982450-8. You may also call UMCOR at (800) 554-8583 to make a credit card donation. Health kits and medicine boxes are also needed. For information on these, call the UMCOR Depot at (800) 814-8765 or visit the web sites for these resources (linked above). We are not able to send volunteers to the area at this point. As soon as that opportunity is available, we will post information on the Hotline.

As we celebrate and trust in the triumph of life over death in this Easter season, please pray for those who suffer from the violence of war.
