The response to Hurricane Georges continues in the Gulf States and the Caribbean. An interfaith group has been established along the Mississippi Coast to carry out the remainder of the relief work and to move into the recovery phase. Volunteer work teams are urgently needed for debris removal and clean up. Skilled chain saw operators are a particular need. Call the Volunteer Line at (800) 918-3100 for further information.

In the Caribbean, generators have been shipped to Puerto Rico and food to the Dominican Republic in addition to financial grants. Grants have also been sent to Haiti and Cuba. Another UMCOR assessment team will be traveling to Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, St Kitts, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat next week. Please give generously to the Churchwide Appeal for Hurricanes 98, UMCOR Advance #982515-0.

UMCOR staff members traveled to Bosnia this week to celebrate the reopening of the town of Ahmici. Ahmici suffered greatly during the war, both human loss and the destruction of homes and community buildings. UMCOR and the surviving villagers have worked together to rebuild the community. Your gifts to Advance #333350-1 continue to help Bosnian people recover from years of war.

UMCOR has sent a grant to the Methodist Church in Indonesia to assist victims of social unrest and to the Methodist Church in Brazil to assist victims of drought. Please give to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, #982450.

Please pray for those who suffer from the hunger, poverty, disasters and war.
