UMCOR Hotline-- United Methodist Committee on Relief

September 11, 1998

Thank you for calling the United Methodist Committee on Relief Hotline, Friday, September 11, 1998.

UMCOR has sent a grant to the Methodist Church in Mexico for victims of flooding caused by Tropical Storm Charley and is working to help provide material resources for clean-up and rebuilding. Recovery efforts from Charley continue in Del Rio, Texas as well with ongoing needs for financial and material resources. To join in these relief efforts on both sides of the border, please give to UMCOR's Hurricanes '98, Advance #982515-0.

UMCOR is providing significant financial assistance for rebuilding efforts in the South Georgia and Holston Conferences from flooding and tornadoes earlier this year. Your gifts to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670 ensure that UMCOR can provide long-term assistance following disasters such as these.

UMCOR is purchasing seeds that will enable 100,000 North Korean families to plant seven different kinds of vegetables next spring. UMCOR and the Houston area churches continue to prepare the ship bound for North Korea later this fall loaded with food boxes, bulk food, seeds and other resources. Please continue your generous gifts to UMCOR's North Korea Emergency, #226435. Long-term volunteers who can accompany the ship to North Korea are still needed. Please call (800) 918-3100 for further information.

Please remember those who suffer from hunger, poverty, disasters, and war in your prayers.
