Increasingly widespread fighting between Serbian police and security forces and the Kosovo Liberation Army has caused a widespread humanitarian crisis through Kosovo and the surrounding regions or countries. It is estimated that more than 300 civilians have been killed in the conflict and large numbers of civilians have fled their homes, farms and livelihoods to escape the violence. UNHCR estimates that as many as 79,000 people are currently displaced by the conflict. A grant has been released to Bishop Heinrich Bolleter for food stuffs and medication to meet needs of those displaced. You may join in this response by giving to UMCOR's International Disaster Response #982450. Please mark your gift, Kosovo Emergency.
This week the Alabama/West Florida Annual Conference sponsored their second Disaster Response Training of the year. Fifteen participants honed their disaster response skills under the guidance of Tom Hazelwood, Domestic Disaster Response Network Coordinator. Many areas of the U.S. have been affected by tornadoes and floods over the past several months and the hurricane season its most active time. Your continuing gifts to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response #901670 will assist with recovery efforts.
