UMCOR is responding to victims of the tidal wave in Papua New Guinea (PNG) through our ecumenical partner, ACT (Action by Churches Together). An initial grant has been sent which will help provide food, water, clothing and medicines. Gifts may be sent throught UMCOR's International Disaster Response #982450, designated "Papua New Guinea." Read the UMNS news article about PNG.
UMCOR has responded to a request from the Davao Annual Conference in the Philippines with a grant that will be used to provide food for seven districts affected by lack of rain caused by El Niño. To join in this relief effort and assistance to other El Niño-caused disasters, please give to UMCOR's El Niño Response, #982328-6.
Disaster coordinators are helping to assess the damage from flooding earlier this week in south central Tennessee. An UMCOR disaster response consultant has been assigned to East Ohio per request from the conference to institute recovery efforts. Severe flooding in southeast Ohio at the end of June left 11 people dead and caused more than $130 million in damage. To join in the recovery efforts from these and earlier domestic disasters, please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670. You may designate your gift for a specific conference, or it will be used where it is most needed.
Many clinics and small, remote medical hospitals rely on Medicine Boxes for their pharmaceutical needs. UMCOR's Medicine Box reserve is very low. If you and your congregation would like to participate in this important ministry, call 1-800-554-8583 to obtain a informational packet or check our website at http://gbgm-umc.org/health/medbox/.
Please remember those who suffer from hunger, poverty, disasters, and war in your prayers.
