Local churches, districts, Florida Conference disaster coordinators and UMCOR staff and consultants were all involved in responding to people affected by the fires in Florida. Churches reached out in many ways, including serving as staging areas for the disaster workers and helping to feed firefighters and people who had to evacuate their homes. UMCOR sent a grant to help purchase food and other emergency supplies. There is extensive agricultural damage, and people who depend on agriculture for their livelihood may need long-term assistance.
Disaster coordinators are helping to assess the damage from flooding in Eastern Ohio, West Virginia, and Troy Conference. Major recovery efforts may be needed in these areas. To join in the recovery efforts from these and earlier domestic disasters, please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670. You may designate your gift for a specific conference, or it will be used where it is most needed.
