June 26, 1998

Thank you for calling the United Methodist Committee on Relief Hotline, Friday, June 26, 1998.

There is an urgent need for volunteers to help with continuing clean-up and rebuilding work from disasters in three areas of the U.S.: the tornadoes in Florida, this year s flooding in South Georgia, and the 1997 floods in the Upper Midwest. Please call the Volunteer Line at (800) 918-3100 for more information.

Local churches and UMCOR disaster coordinators in Florida are helping people to evacuate from areas threatened by the fires. As UMCOR receives further requests for assistance in this disaster, we will post that information on the Hotline.

UMCOR has responded to a request from the Liberian Annual Conference with a grant that will be used to provide food and medicine for displaced persons who are returning home. To join in this relief effort and further assist in the recovery work following years of civil war in Liberia, please give to UMCOR's Liberia Emergency #150300-7.

UMCOR has also sent a grant to the Church of Pakistan to provide food and building supplies for the victims of recent flooding. Your gifts to UMCOR's International Disaster Response #982450, designated Pakistan Flooding will assist in these recovery efforts.

Please remember those who suffer from hunger, poverty, disasters, and war in your prayers.
